Le Burgal of Alain Ducasse

A new collaboration
between Patrick Jouin iD, chef Alain Ducasse and JCDecaux to transform a
Parisian newspaper kiosk into a food kiosk offering vegetarian burgers, Le
Burgal.
The Patrick Jouin iD team ensured the design and
fit-out of the Le Burgal kiosk, a new food-kiosk concept imagined by Alain
Ducasse on Place de la Bastille. The kiosk combines street food and plant-based
food, offering, among other things, a takeaway burger that is 100% vegan.
Housed in a JCDecaux Parisian news kiosk, during opening hours it occupies a
surface area of 5.5m2, and when closed fits neatly into only 3m2.
With such a small space, a variety of clever solutions
were required to ensure maximum practicality of reception, preparation,
cleaning, tidying away and storage. One of the main sources of inspiration was
the iconic and ingenious American hot-dog stand. This project represented an
exciting challenge in order to overcome constraints and rethink uses.
Colours, graphics, materials, lighting and shapes have
been selected to reflect Alain Ducasse’s concept, an efficient and responsible
menu.
With this functional aesthetic, we have endeavoured to
contribute to the dynamic of kiosks within the city, to the role that they play
in neighbourhood life through their positioning and function, whether it be
selling newspapers or, as in the case of Le Burgal, other experiments suggested
by MédiaKiosk for JCDecaux, in consultation with local authorities, in this
case the Mairie de Paris.
