« In every job, in each of my proposals, the first thing I look for is to find a balance point between technical mastery, use, and a sustainable approach, which respects the environment » - Patrick Jouin

While Patrick Jouin was studying at the ENSCI, wood was often the base material used to give form to ideas and drawings, to realize mock-ups and prototypes. Easily accessible and flexible, it was eventually too often limited to this use. The reflection around the material per se, its potential, the multiple know-hows tied to its conversion were almost forgotten.
Gradually, the eyes of the designer focused again on this material with extraordinary characteristics. Increasingly understood by researchers, engineers, and chemists, it is nowadays possible to associate traditional know-hows with advanced technology in order to discover new fields of application.

Patrick Jouin rediscovered the incredible potential of this material through his interior architecture and design studio, Jouin Manku, where he is associated with Sanjit Manku. In June 2019, his last Patrick Jouin iD’s creations were presented in his studio at passage de la Bonne-Graine in Paris, developed by using this incredible material, which has so long been regarded as belonging to the past, and which is today recognized as the material of the future.
